3rd NC Turkish Festival was organized by Divan Cultural Center on Saturday April 19th 2008 in the Exposition Center in NC State Fairgrounds between 11 and 7pm.

Dr. Jill Carroll at Divan
Dr. Jill Carroll, the author of the new book
"A Dialogue of Civilizations: Gulen's Islamic Ideals and Humanistic Discourse", was at Divan Cultural Center on Friday February 22nd at 8:00 pm.
After signing her book at Southpoint Barnes&Noble, Dr. Carroll visited divan and shared her ideas about interfaith dialogue and peaceful co-existence of civilizations. She also talked about her experiences writing the book.

2nd Ashure (Noah's Pudding) Competition
We, as Divan Women's Club, celebrated the Day of Ashure (Noah’s Pudding) on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Divan.
This was one of the wonderful Ashures made that day. Even though it was very difficult for the jury to pick a winner out of nine contestants.
Donation to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in NC
During Islamic holy day (January 20-23rd) Eid ul-Adha (Kurban Bayrami), Divan collected meat donations in an effort to help feed those in need in NC.
Our volunteers from Divan Cultural Center donated to provide aid to people in need our community.
As a result, 350 pounds of meat were donated to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh, NC. I pictures I
Ahmet Ertekin's Speech
On Sunday January 6th, Mr. Ahmet Ertekin gave an interesting speech to our guests at Divan.
His speech was about the archaeological discoveries of The Hittites, who
lived in Anatolia, in Corum region in Turkiye. I pictures I
Kurban Bayram Celebration
Divan Cultural Center organized a program to celebrate the Kurban Bayrami
More than 150 people gathered at Divan for this cheerful Celebration on Friday 21st.
Our voluntaries prepared the food including Kavurma, Rice and delicious sweets, baklavas and cakes.
In the celebration, our guest Mr Erol Ucak presented a wonderful show. The Atmosphere filled with his imitations and mimics exhilarated us all.
There
is no need to mention our children. They were very happy since the
elders were applauding them watching their activities. At the end, Each

Scholars @ Divan: Dr. Guven Guzeldere

Dr. Guven Guzeldere was our guest for the Scholars @ Divan program on December 8th.
Dr. Guzeldere is an associate professor of Philosophy, Psychology & Neuroscience, Linguistics, and Neurobiology at Duke University.
His talk was titled "Exploring the Conscious/Unconscious Boundary in Visual Perception and Cognition". I pictures I
Bob Etheridge at Divan
US Representative Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) visited Divan on November 30th. First he met with board members of Divan and had a cup of Turkish
coffee. Then he met with members of Turkish Community.
He shared his opinions about importance of a cultural center like this and the responsibilities it carries. In a broader context he also mentioned his visits to Turkey and how wonderful it was. Istanbul, which is a fascinating city in his words, is one of the best cities he has been concerning with hospitality of its people, the rich history, Bosphorus and grand bazaar.
He also discussed some issues related politics, education in US and health care and answered the questions of attendees. In the reception, he also tasted some samples of Turkish cuisine. Visit from a Student Group
On Thursday, November 29th, we had a group students from Duke University and North Carolina State University. After a beautiful dinner, Mr. Bilal answered the questions that the students had prepared before coming to Divan.
The questions were mostly about Turkey, Middles East, Islam and
contemporary Muslim world. We would like to thank to all of our visitors
and especially Dr. Sanford Kessler, who is currently an Adjunct Associate

"Kaynasma" Dinner for Turkish Community
Kaynasma Dinner,which was organized by Divan Cultural Center, was held at Sheraton Hotel in Durham on November 28th, 2007. Kaynasma stands for solidarity in Turkish.
The purpose of dinner was to create an atmosphere where members of Turkish Community can meet, socialize and coalesce with one another.
Ramadan Bayram Celebration
Ramadan Bayram celebration was held at Divan CulturalCenter. Our guest enjoyed live Turkish Music by GOKMEN, traditional Turkish Shadow Puppet Theater by Caldcleugh Multicultural Center, delicious Turkish Foods including Doner.
Our children chorus gave a wonderful performance. Following our traditions we provided gifts to all attended children. I pictures I
Summer Picnic 2007
Divan organized a picnic on Sunday August 26th in Lake Wheeler Park attracting over 100 parents and children with children’s entertainment, balloons etc.
Beside the good Turkish homemade dishes, barbecued chicken and meatballs were great. Everyone enjoyed the day that we believe will be remembered. I pictures I
Fire Fighters Appreciation Day
Our community held the Fire Fighters Appreciation Day on July 21st 2007 at Divan Cultural Center and a good time was had by all. The event is organized so that we can become more aware of the importance of them.

Sholars at Divan: Dr Umit Yalcin
On April 28 2007 , Dr Umit Yalcin gave us a speech titled "A definition of Philosophy: Putting a stick to a beehive" in Scholars @ Divan program series.
Dr Yalcin is an associate professor of Philosophy at ECU, joined in 1993.

2nd Turkish Food Festival
2nd Turkish Food Festival attracted a crowd of more than 500 people despite the heavy rain on Sunday, April 15th. Authentic Turkish gyro, kabobs, kofta, wraps, pitas, pies, dolma, borek, baklava, Turkish coffee and Turkish tea were among the items in the festival menu.
The guests enjoyed live Turkish music by Durukan and folk dance shows by Blue Star Dance Troupe while having their food. Bosphorus and Tallulas restaurants and Harmony Mediterranean Market also participated in the festival. I pictures I

We celebrated the Day of Ashure (Noah’s Pudding) on Saturday, February 10th, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Divan.
In the program, There were 13 contestant and our jurie chose the top three among them.
